On the sixth day of Christmas...

My true love took me on a trip through Parliament Zone!

We had such a fun time on our adventure through the Parliament Area here in Canberra. Canberra is the capital of Australia so it's quite like visiting Washington D.C. in the States. There are so many museums, art galleries, government buildings and so on within a 20 minute drive for us.

First stop on our day trip: The rose gardens. It wasn't really a stop, but Destiny decided to stop and smell the roses :)

Here is the New Parliament building. To find out all sorts of fun information on the New and Old Parliament Houses please visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliament_House,_Canberra
There is a close up on the top. The New Parliament House is built into the ground a bit so you can walk on the grass (up hill) to the top of it.
This is looking down from The New Parliament House onto the Old Parliament House and the Mountain in the back is Mount Ainslie (we hiked it on Christmas Eve):
This is inside the New Parliament House where many meetings are held. The tapestry was beautiful.
I really liked this sign: "Trust the Women..."!!! I told Matt that should be his new motto!
The flag flying high!
Matt and the girls:
Then it was my turn for a pic.
We stopped off for lunch at the Pork Barrel, which is a charming little restaurant new the rose gardens.
Veggie curry and Salmon Cream Cheese Quiche was delish!
This was our view: ROSES!!
Next stop: Old Parliament House. It was been redone into a lovely museum. Destiny really loved the dress up area.
She dressed up as a queen.
The girls with the queen's crowns on. {Addi looks thrilled}
One last hat: Destiny in the cow boy hat! haha! What a crack up!
There was another children's area in the museum that allowed the girls to get creative. It was so fun drawing and making origami.
Finally, Destiny got to dress up as the Speaker of the House. So silly!
We really enjoyed our time at Old Parliament House. It was beautifully constructed with all of lovely wood work through out. In the picture below, you can see the Old Parliament House with the New Parliament House peeking over the top of it.
All in all, this day was a great one. We learned so much about the government in Australia. I am so happy we took the time to see these places.
How is every one doing? I feel like I've been out of touch a bit with all of the holiday hub hub! I hope your holidays were great. Here, it is Monday and we are back to the daily grind. It's cloudy and looks a bit like it's going to rain. Addi is sleeping in so I have already gotten the house vacuumed, dusted, laundry done and bread is rising! Should be a great day!
Aussie word o' the day: Polly = Politician
I thought that was appropriate for the post today! :)
Enjoy today!
